I AM A REFERRAL AGENT, DO I HAVE TO TAKE CONTINUING ED?
Referral Agents, do not have to take continuing education. However, if you have been a referral agent for 6 years or more, and you would like to be licensed as a salesperson, then you would need to take 30 credit hours of makeup continuing education, (in some cases, you may need to re-take the 75 hour pre-licensure course), and re-take the exam.
If you have been a referral agent for less than 6 years, and you would like to retain the ability to convert to active status, in the future, and not have to re-take the exam, then you can take makeup continuing education courses, in core and ethics topics. Once the sufficient amount of credit hours has been completed, you can convert your license to salesperson or broker salesperson. You can then convert back to referral agent during the next licensing cycle for a new period of under 6 years more.
Question: Before becoming a referral agent, I was licensed as a salesperson or broker-salesperson. How many make-up hours do I need?
Referral Agent back to Salesperson: 12 credit hours, (core & ethics) if under 3 years; 18 credit hours, (core & ethics) if more than 3 years, but less than 6 years. If more than 6 years, then 30 credit hours in total, (24 credit hours of core & ethics topics), and re-take the salesperson's exam.
Referral Agent back to broker-salesperson: 18 credit hours if under 3 years; 24 credit hours if more than 3 years, but less than 6 years, all in core & ethics topics. If more than 6 years, then 30 credit hours in total, (24 credit hours in core & ethics topics), and re-take the broker's exam.
